Industrial Photography Meetup

Industrial Photography Meetup

Saturday 02 November
Brunswick Pl, North Docks - 10am - 2 Hours
Liverpool Photography Group
Valentina Passerini
Industrial photography is a photographic niche that perfectly fits with the history of the city of Liverpool and with its landscape.

In this meetup, I will show the participants how to find interesting views and compositions whilst immersed in the landscape of the North docks
with industrial photography you can use buildings and other man-made structures in the same way other photographers use trees and rolling hills in landscape photography. Wind farms, harbours, cement works, power stations, quarries, pylons and building sites are just a few of the industrial landscapes you can photograph. The Liverpool docks are the perfect setting for this kind of photography meetup.

We will be starting with an overview of landscape photography technique, how to decide what to take a picture of and how to compose shots, we will then move into settings and more technical challenges to get an idea of when the camera behaves best for landscapes.

I loved my time with Wei-Ting because I learnt so much in that short space of time. She taught me how to really look at a tree and notice the different shapes and how the sunlight created shadows and light. Since Saturday I have been studying trees and the shapes they make and I?ve practiced sketching some from books before I go out for a country walk later in the week. I so look forward to the next tutorial in January.

This was my first attempt at scraperboard and I was trying to create a picture with dramatic lighting that would make the most of the medium. As it turned out, a lot of the board was left black and untouched to represent the shadows, so it was easier than I thought!

As an Artist I have learned to make sure I draw and paint the things that I love and am passionate about. I don't have a particular subject matter I stick to, however portraits are something I enjoy a lot.'Jurgen Klopp' A2 Acrylic and Charcoal on Canvas. This piece is significant to me as a piece for 2 reasons. The first being that I wanted to capture the Charisma and Strong Personality that is the LFC Manager. The second was my development of a new Art process. For years I solely worke

Title or Location: A Moonlit night (walk) in Knotty Ash
I had the pleasure of meeting Sir Ken Dodd (not just seeing him on stage) but on many a moonlit evening near his home on Thomas Lane. His dry whit and comical sense of humour was as natural as ever. It just came to him, off stage, just as it was on it.During the Lockdowns, I was put on Furlough and until that point, I hadn't picked up a paint brush for 35 years. My art teacher in school said that I was no good and could never make it as an artist. With time on my hands and memories of things

Oil sketch, 11?x14?. This is my first attempt with oils after a 38 year career as an exhibit designer. Started with quick turp washes, then built up some detail. I was going to continue, but I kind of like it the way it is. Anxious to start another, and having fun.

Title or Location: Wooden Wave
This piece is acrylic on wood. I used some scrap pieces I had cut from the end of a wooden board I was using. The actual wave and cliff are from where the knot in the board had separated. As soon as I saw it I knew what I was going to do with it. This is two pieces of wood, individually painted and then screwed together. I love upcycling these scraps.

Title or Location: A memorial drawing of George napping with Chris
I originally drew George for Chris a few years ago but after he passed more recently, Chris came to me with a photograph which he said meant a lot to him and asked if I could do a drawing of it. It was a bit of a challenge but I did the best I could with it and when I sent an image of my drawing to Chris he first just replied ?there are no words? but he then came back later with:?wish you had known him Alan and in a strange way it?s like you did. You portray my bond with him like no one else c
